About Us: Design Led, Maker Driven
Welcome to the studio. It’s a bit quiet in here, and that’s because you’re looking at a true one-man operation. From the initial sketch on a screen to the final polish of a physical object, every single thing you see on this site is handled personally by me.
Twenty Years of Design Experience
I didn't start with 3D printing. I started with a passion for visual communication. With over 20 years of experience spanning graphic design, digital interfaces, and motion graphics, my background is rooted in the art of making things move and communicate effectively.
Today, I’ve stepped away from the purely digital world to apply that expertise to physical products. I design and manufacture everything in-house, ensuring that the quality meets the high standards I’ve set over two decades in the industry.
Why QuietGrid?
The name QuietGrid is not just a label. It is the core philosophy behind everything I create. My goal is to design simple and functional objects that are not just standalone pieces. Instead, they are part of a wider and interconnected system.
In a world full of visual noise, I strive for a quiet aesthetic. This means products that sit harmoniously in your space without shouting for attention. By designing on a grid, I ensure that no matter which product you decide to buy today or a year from now, they will always work together.
Whether it is the proportions, the modularity, or the shared design language, every item is built to complement the next. This systematic approach means you can build your collection over time. You can be confident that your QuietGrid pieces will always fit perfectly into your life and alongside one another.
Function Over Form
My design philosophy is simple: function comes first. I believe that if a product works perfectly, its beauty will naturally follow. This "form follows function" approach is why my work leans towards a minimalist aesthetic.
I draw heavy inspiration from the Swiss Graphic Design and the Bauhaus school. These movements taught me the value of clean lines, purposeful layout, and the removal of the unnecessary. If a detail doesn’t serve a purpose, it doesn’t belong on the product.
The Journey: From Pixels to Prototypes
This business began with a simple desire to create "real" things that people can hold in their hands. Currently, I utilise high-precision 3D printing to bring my visions to life.
However, this is just the beginning. The long-term goal for the studio is to expand our workshop to include CO2 laser cutters and CNC machinery, allowing me to scale these designs into small furniture and larger home goods. When you buy from me now, you are supporting the growth of a local craft-based future.
Conscious Manufacturing & Modern Tools
I believe in a transparent and ethical approach to business. Here is how I work:
- Made to Order: We don’t believe in mass-produced waste. Your product only begins its life once you click "purchase." This ensures every item is freshly made and carefully inspected just for you.
- Human-Made Designs: I do not use AI to generate images, products, or assets. Every curve and colour is a human decision. However, as I likely navigate the world with dyslexia, I do use AI to help me refine my written text. It’s a tool that makes this entrepreneurial journey accessible for me.
- Fighting the Subscription Model: I am a firm believer in owning the tools of my trade. I primarily use powerful open-source software like FreeCAD, Blender, and DaVinci Resolve. For my photography and graphics, I invest in "buy-to-own" software like Affinity Photo 2 and ON1 Photo RAW. By avoiding the industry’s shift toward endless subscriptions, I can keep my overheads fair and my creative process independent.
Thank you for supporting an independent maker. It means the world to me that my designs have found a place in your home.
